The newspaper may not have been aware of daughter Mary Catherine, 37, married to John Henry Webb and probably living in Queensland.

The children of whom it was aware most likely were

• Ellen (Ella) Maude, 44, married to Joseph Patrick Hanley and living in Melbourne,
• William Wallis, 43, married to Annie Rosina Silbereisen and living in Tasmania, and, of course,
• Jane Ann, 35, married to William John Smith and living in nearby Leitche's Creek.
