The Inscription in Thomas Rix's Bible

Gold-embossed on a rectangular, leathery leaf firmly adhered to the inside front cover of the Bible, the inscription expresses the feelings of Thomas' Wesleyan Methodist Class upon his departure for Australia in January, 1853.

The inscription makes reference to Genesis 31:49.

"And Mizpah; for he said, The Lord watch between me and thee, when we are absent one from another."
